Melomakarona

Yes, it's Christmas time! And if you want to realise that, the only thing that you should do is making these sweet little honey cookies! We prepared this recipe for you, because we wanted to give you an healthy, nutritious and delicious alternative of our favourite cookies!
PLEASE NOTE: These delicious honey cookies are super addictive, very quick, and so much fun to make!

Melomakarona (Greek Christmas Honey Cookies)

This is the most healthy and nutritious recipe for melomakarona you can find and they will definitely make your Christmas Special!

Prepping time: 20min
Cooking time: 25-35min
Servings: 15
Calories: 208 per serving 
Exercise equivalent: 17min per serving 

Ingredients Mixture A

  • 100g Dates
  • 140g Orange
  • 120g Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. Soda
  • 1 tbsp. Cloves
  • 1 tbsp. Cinanamon powder
  • Zest of two oranges

Ingredients Mixture B

  • 400g All-purpose Flour
  • 40g Semolina
  • 1 tbsp. Baking powder

Syrup Ingredients

  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Honey
  • 1 Orange (cut in two)
  • 1 Cinnamon stick

 

Directions

  1. Bring the syrup ingredients to a boil, all except for the honey.
  2. After the water with the herbs boils, turn off the heat and add the honey.
  3. Mix well and allow your syrup to cool completely.
  4. Soak the dates in the orange juice. Leave them in for half an hour and then mash them in the blender together with the orange juice. Then incorporate them into the mixture A.
  5. Mix the Solids (mixture B) and the liquid ingredients together with the mashed dates (mixture A)
  6. Mix the two mixtures and knead as little as possible.
  7. Make the melomakarona and give shape with the help of a grater.
  8. Bake at 190 in the air for 25-35 'until the melomakarona turn brown and crispy
  9. Pour the brown melomakarona in the cold syrup and leave for about 10 seconds.

Notes
  • Make the melomakarona as little as possible. This way they will not remove the oil that happens to be removed many times during kneading.
  • Make sure your syrup is completely cold and the melomakarona completely hot, out from the oven.
